Dr Ellen C G Grant MB ChB, DObstRCOG Medical degree with Commendation from St Andrews University 1958 and prize in Obstetrics. Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the RCOG London in 1959. Conducted the London Council for the Investigation of Fertility Trials of Oral Contraceptives and published numerous papers on the clinical, pathological and biochemical effects of progesterones and oestrogens. Described the currently used method for assessing the potency of progesterones in 1967 (patterns of bleeding and subnuclear vacuoles in glands). Related increases in headaches, migraine, hypertension, strokes and heart attacks to hormone-induced changes in small arterioles. Related increases in thrombosis to dilated venous sinusoids. Related increases in depression to progesterone-induced high monoamine oxidase activities. Research for 10 years at the Charing Cross Hospital Migraine Clinic defined the main causes of severe and recurrent migraine as due to use of progesterones and oestrogens, smoking and ergot medications and commonly eaten foods. Member of the Dyslexia Institute Council for 20 years. Discovered dyslexic children were likely to be zinc deficient and to have higher levels of toxic metals including cadmium and mercury then their matched controls. Medical and Scientific Advisor to Foresight - The Association for the Promotion of Preconception Care. Founder Member of the British Society for Ecological Medicine and Member of the International Editorial Board of the Journal for Nutritional and Environmental Medicine. BUPA recognized specialist for migraine, food allergies, preconception care and learning problems in children.
