Misunderstanding about amalgam ban
2 January 2008
"TV-AVISEN" and several other news media on Monday sent out information that the use of amalgam in Danish dental clinics will be totally banned as of 1 April this year.
There are, however, several misunderstandings:
For one thing, it will not be a total ban. The Environmental Board plans to phase out amalgam more than today (as described in the dental journal No. 11/2007), but there will also in the future be situations where the use of amalgam will be allowed in dental clinics. This information comes from Bent Horn Andersen, from the Environmental Board.
Also, the new rules regarding the use of amalgam will not take effect on 1 April 2008. This will probably first happen on 1 October 2008
We will continually give updates on this matter here on this site.
